Rivendell's immersive and collaborative devising continues on
the Folded Map, a groundbreaking play created in collaboration
with artist and activist Tonika Johnson.
This summer workshop, in partnership with University of
Chicago's Performance Lab re-convenes the core artist team, joined by a few new talented participants to engage with the
real-life stories from Tonika’s transformative projects that highlight the divide in Chicago's neighborhoods.
Led by a dynamic team of writers, performers, and community advocates, the workshop provides a space to deepen connections to the play's themes while crafting narratives that reflect personal experiences and social justice.
The session will culminate in a public sharing, where attendees
can witness the raw and transformative storytelling process.
We invite you to be a part of this critical conversation, bridging the gap between communities through the stories that shape us.

September 2024
Core artists re-convened in September for an additional workshop, building on the August work. This workshop culminated in a public reading for a sold-out audience in Rivendell’s theatre. Core artist team + performance by Ensemble member Keith Kupferer.

The core team gathered for a week-long workshop that covered more stories, transcripts and memories from Tonika’s journey.

Core artist team led by Quenna Barrett reconvenes at the U of C Performance Lab for a 2-week workshop to build off of the 2024 Folded Map content. The workshop will move the project steps closer toward a fully-realized script.
